Elephants need much care and attention because their number is continuously decreasing. The world wildlife fund for nature has listed elephants in their endangered species. Many species were listed as endangered species in the past by WWF and those species are extinct now. This means that those species no longer exist today. WWF has also given a warning sign due to the decreasing number of elephants. Thus, there is a dire need to protect this species. There are artificial sanctuaries at many locations in Thailand to provide natural habitat to elephants. Thai people care a lot about their national animal and they are trying their best to save this species.
The benefits of elephants:
Elephants serve humans a lot. It is said that elephants are very loyal to their master. Thus, they provide their master with many services. The villagers of Thailand find out baby elephants. They catch them and train them at their location. Then the trained elephant can be used for transportation. In the past, Thai people used these animals in their wars and it has a deep connection with their history. It should also be noted that the dung of elephant can be used to make paper.
The facilities provided to the elephants at sanctuaries:
- Elephants are provided a natural habitat free from any danger of hunt or wild animals.
- Elephants are provided with medical facilities to make sure they are physically fit.
- Humans are also welcomed to the sanctuaries to spend some time with the elephants. Thus, awareness is also provided to save elephants. The needs of elephants such as healthy food are also demonstrated.
- Samui elephant spa is intended to save elephants from sunburn.
- A healthy interaction between the elephants and humans is generally promoted.
- The technique of making paper from animal dung is also demonstrated.
